Obama Comes Out in Support of Marriage Equality

“Same-sex couples should be able to get married.”—President Obama

I mentioned in a previous posting that marriage equality is probably the issue for which I am a pretty big advocate. So this, coming from the mouth of the POTUS, is a pretty big deal. Granted, it’s not the perfect revelation. He makes it pretty clear that “personally” he believes such. Will he advocate for it? Only time will tell. It’s a bold move, and a move that will probably cost him. Those sitting on the fence will probably no longer support him, and I can see many African Americans already turning away from him in disgust (Side note: Can anyone tell me why exactly there tends to be a lot of opposition to same-sex marriage from the African American community?). Anyway, this is pretty big. The commander in chief actually vocalizing his opinion on marriage equality. Now if only the backwards people and states (cough, North Carolina, cough) could all think this way. But we’ve still got a long ways to go. This is a good step, though. The fight is long from over. Where do you stand?
